Every Veteran’s Day, we honor and recognize America’s heroes and the sacrifices that they have made for our country. Here at Weatherman, it brings us great joy to play a small part in celebrating veterans all year long by donating a portion of our proceeds to an important cause.
As proud contributors to the Folds of Honor Foundation, we have raised over $300,000 to date and we look forward to donating more with your continued support.
What is the Folds of Honor Foundation?
Since 2007, Folds of Honor has been on a mission to bring patriotic Americans together in support of the families of America’s fallen and disabled soldiers. The Folds of Honor Foundation does so by giving their spouse and children the opportunity to pursue their educational goals.
The Folds of Honor offers two types of educational scholarships. These programs include the Children's Fund Scholarship serving kindergarten through 12th grade students, and the Higher Education Scholarship for those seeking a college degree or other post-secondary certification.
How Does Weatherman Contribute to Folds of Honor?
In support of the Folds of Honor, we’ve launched a patriotic collection that takes the classic Weatherman umbrella design and dresses it up with custom patterns. For every umbrella sold, we donate $5 to the Folds of Honor. As we mentioned above, since creating this line we’ve raised over $300,000 for the foundation.
Our most recent addition in the Folds of Honor Collection is called the Celebration Collection. Its stellar design was created by Tim Del Rosario, who is a graphic design student at Old Dominion University and recipient of the Folds of Honor Higher Education scholarship!

FAQ About Folds of Honor
Where did Folds of Honor originate?
The Folds of Honor was started by Lieutenant Colonel Dan Rooney back in 2007 and has been providing support to veterans and their families ever since. Upon returning home from his second tour in Iraq, Lt Col Rooney shared the flight with the remains of fallen Corporal Brock Bucklin and watched as his family sadly received his flag-covered casket.
In that moment, he was hit with the crushing reality of the sacrifice that families make, and the grief that comes along with that when a loved one in uniform is fallen or disabled. He went on to create Folds of Honor and dedicate his life to making a difference in these families’ lives.
What does Folds of Honor pay for?
Folds of Honor Scholarships must be used for educational purposes only. This includes tuition, some fees, on-campus housing, required textbooks and required school uniforms.
The Higher Education Scholarship cannot be used for off-campus housing, Greek housing, fees or meal plans, computers or other electronic accessories, special field, certification or license exams, student insurance, retroactive semester charges or tuitions, parking fees or transportation, sporting event tickets, or other miscellaneous expenses.
The Children’s Fund Scholarship cannot be used for any materials outside of required textbooks, PTO fees, or any expenses related to sports or after-school activities.
Who qualifies for Folds of Honor?
For the Children’s Fund Scholarship, the following applicant requirements apply:
Applicant must be:
- Enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited private school OR tutoring institution (must be fully enrolled before accepting a scholarship award offer)
- At least age 5 (by September 1st of calendar year applying in) and enrolled in full-time Kindergarten program.
- A dependent of service member (with applicable documentation listed below):
- Current Military ID - must provide copy of front and back (must show service member as sponsor)
- OR State-Issued Birth Certificate (must list service member as a parent)
AND one of the below, IF APPLICABLE:
- State-Issued Marriage Certificate (if step-child of service member)
- Legal adoption papers (if adopted child of the service member)
- Legal guardianship document (if legal ward of the service member)
For the Higher Education Scholarship, the following applicant requirements apply:
Applicant must be:
- Enrolled or planning to enroll in an undergraduate program of study leading to a bachelor’s degree at an accredited college (2- or 4-year) or university (cannot already have a bachelor’s degree or higher) OR
- Enrolled or planning to enroll in an accredited technical or trade school program, which results in a certificate or license (cannot already have a bachelor’s degree or higher)
- A DEPENDENT OF SERVICE MEMBER (with applicable documentation listed below):
- Current Military ID - must provide copy of front and back (must show service member as sponsor)
- OR State-Issued Birth Certificate (listing service member as a parent)
AND one of the below, IF APPLICABLE:
- State-Issued Marriage Certificate (if step-child of service member)
- Legal adoption papers (if adopted child of the service member)
- Legal guardianship document (if legal ward of the service member)
Dependents:
▪ must be 24 years of age or younger (as of March 31st of the application year)
▪ unmarried (never been married)
▪ can only receive scholarship award for a maximum of 4 years
What percentage of money goes to Folds of Honor?
Folds of Honor donates 91% of all raised funds to its scholarships. (The other 9% goes towards administrative requirements to maintain the organization)
